Well, it's been a little over two years since I updated this blog and I figure it's about time I restarted it. A lot has happened since those days working at Adams National Historical Park. I spent some time back in FL taking care of a health issue and then spent a few weeks attending the Winterthur Institute's Winter Session on Early American Decorative Arts. I learned a little about everything from textiles in early America to 17th century William and Mary furniture to the fundamentals of cabinetmaking (which turned out to be the most interesting. I will never look at the shrinking and swelling of wood the same way again). I felt like I was back in graduate school!
During those two weeks I networked with other museum professionals and landed my current job at the Litchfield Historical Society as their Curator of Education. I am extremely lucky to have found a job in my field during these hard economic times. With budgets being slashed due to low membership renewals, dwindling endowments and the uncertainty of funding from granting agencies such as NEH and NEA, it's a tough market out there for museum professionals. Everyone just needs to 'hold on hope.' (Thanks Mumford & Sons and Kara Williamson!).
Anyway, along the way I have made some good friends and met a good man. I am trying to focus on all the good in my life and this might just be the way to do it. And, maybe, document my life a little so I don't get lost in all the day-to-day stuff. Let's see if I can keep this up!
